Incoming: Sally Can't Dance Experimental Music Festival
By Sep 30, 2015 Music
XP may be gone, but the ghost of the venue's culture lives on in the city's various and sundry experimental music performers. And they've got a big one coming up in November: it's just been announced that perennial avant-garde music festival Sally Can't Dance will return for its fifth iteration on November 7-8 @ School Bar.

Like the previous edition, which took place in 2012 at the then-unnamed space that would eventually become XP, this year's Sally is co-organized by the concerns behind experimental music arbiters Zoomin' Night and pangbianr. Unlike in past years, the focus is less on "performers" and more on "composers." They elaborate:

"Of course the concepts of 'composition' and 'composer' that we're using are very loose. Each day will feature 5-6 original works, performed in different spaces within School Bar, composed by individuals at the bleeding edge of China's experimental music vanguard."

Confirmed composers so far include experimental music scene lynchpin Yan Jun, Chui Wan frontman Yan Yulong, and Shanghai harsh noise terrors Torturing Nurse, who've only ever played in Beijing as part of this festival's semi-annual bill.
